What I am about to write is one of the craziest stories I have ever heard. What you are about to read is only part of the story. There are numerous charges pending, but the story isn’t about the crime or the horrible story that might have been told had it not been for a little dog named Pebbles. I wanted to share the story of this awesome dog that saved two great friends lives. My friends also wanted to remain anonymous due to the nature of the story and charges pending against the assailant(s).
A couple weeks ago I called my friend as he was heading home in a rush from work and he sounded panicked. I asked him if everything was alright and he simply said, “I am dealing with some crazy shit right now. Send me what you need and I will get to it.” I assumed something had happened to someone in his family. Whether it was his wife, kids, or grandkids I wasn’t sure but I figured he will tell me at some point. I went about my business and I followed up with him a few days ago and this is where the story gets crazy.
My friend says sorry it took a while to call you back, but I was dealing with a plot that someone was going to murder my wife and I. As I sit in shock he begins to tell me the story. The first question I asked was, “How did you find out?” His response, “My dog.” The dog? Yea man my dog saved our lives.
He said his stepson was on the phone with his mom and mentioned Pebbles, their dog, that is part beagle part llasa apso, was acting weird and she wouldn’t go outside. As his conversation with her continued, he noticed a strange man in is stepdaughters bedroom and told his mom that he had seen a man roll off his sister’s bed hoping to not be seen to which his mom replied to call 911 immediately. He hung up the phone and the cops were at his home within minutes, only to find out the stranger had bolted from the house, but didn’t go far as they found him across the street hiding with a duffle bag full of guns and a hatchet.
As he continued to tell me the details of what happened, and as they investigated they found out this man was there to kill my friends and burn the house down. The police had discovered text messages that had been exchanged between the stepdaughter and the man that explained in not so many details what their plan was.
My friend told me that not only had the dog been acting weird that afternoon, but every day for the last 10 years he had the same morning routine with his dog. He would get up and shower, then wake his wife so she could do the same and then they would take the dog out. Then Pebbles would go to his step daughters room for the day. That morning things were different as my friends did their same routine, but Pebbles refused. After their time outside that day, Pebbles would not go into is stepdaughters room. They didn’t know why and just left for work. Little did they know that the strange man had been in the room since the night before. Waiting.
You can imagine as I sat and listened to the story I thought I was listening to an episode of NBC’s Dateline unfold, but this time there was a happy ending. Had Pebbles not been acting strangely, at least to my friends, things could have turned out a lot different.
Pebbles knew something was wrong and was giving a warning as only she knew how. Luckily things played out they way they did and my friends are alive to tell their story to all of us and let us know about their awesome dog.
Dog’s are not only a man’s best friend, but they are everyone’s best friend. Pebbles is a hero… All 7 pounds of her.
