Music… I Hear Music

While it is lyrics from King’s X Over My Head, I am not here to write about them. I am here to throw out some verbiage on new music that I have spent some time with over the last few weeks from Airbourne, Phil Campbell, and my friends in the indie band Saint Roch. As always I will keep it simple and to the point as I am certainly not a “review writer” type of guy more of this is my opinion and you can like it or not type of guy…

First off lets talk about Airbourne. I love these fuckin’ guys. Their new album Boneshaker has arrived and it just kicks mucho ass. 10 songs clocking it at 31 minutes. That my friends is how you do it. No filler, just kick ass 3 minute rock songs..

On to Phil Campbell and his solo record Old Lions Still Roar. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first heard he was doing a solo project, not to be confused with his project Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons. This album he snagged up some friends who are of course great singers and with his guitar work created a great rock record. How can you go wrong with Rob Halford, Dee Snider, Whitfield Crane and Alice Cooper singing on your solo release. Simple. You can’t. My personal favorite tune from the record is with Nev MacDonald. A singer I really know nothing about, but I love this damn tune.

And finally, I am giving a nod to some friends in Saint Roch a band from New Orleans, LA. 14 tracks on their release Hell Yeah. Seriously who even thinks about putting 14 tracks on a record these days? Guys who write simple but fun music. These guys came to the table with a groove filled record that has been influenced by AC/DC, Motorhead, Social D, and the Ramones. I dig it. I have always told Todd he isn’t a singer (he is a damn good guitarist though) but dammit man I am actually liking what he calls singing on this record. The first single Burn It has a killer bass line and catchy guitar riff that will have you cranking this one up in the car and screaming along. A couple of other catchy little numbers include Red Letter Day and I Know You Know. Check em out and give them a like or a follow or whatever it is the cool kids are doing these days.
